"Yoga can be so much more than an exercise routine. When informed by modern movement science and combined with mindfulness meditation, contemplation and deeper study it can help strengthen your body, stabilize your mind, open your heart and elevate your spirit so that you can become the best possible version of yourself - at home, at work and in your family and interpersonal relationships. I’d love to be your guide on the journey."
- Jason Ray Brown
Zenyasa® is a synthesis of slow-flow yoga, Zen meditation and functional conditioning exercise. The practice is accessible and beginner-friendly with step-by-step verbal cues to help cultivate mindfulness, sound alignment and optimal effectiveness within each of the postures. All sessions include breathing exercises, meditation, joint mobilization, simple flowing sequences and a handful of functional strengthening exercises meant to both strengthen and stretch every major muscle group.
In private sessions, each practice is informed by your unique needs, goals and energy level, all of which changes from week to week. There are opportunities within each class to pause and ask questions, with less of an agenda to "get all the way through a sequence." There is also more a more personal exchange between teacher and student. As time goes on it will become more clear what your strengths and weaknesses are so that we can hone in on developing the areas that need work.
Another reason you might seek private instruction is that you want guidance around developing your own personal practice. There will always be something special about doing a self-guided daily practice on your own mat, where you can move to the rhythm of your own breath, work as hard or soft as your then-present energy desires, stop and start, change directions, listen to and receive guidance from your own inner voice. It's wonderful, and I can help you develop a personal practice that you can call your own.

"Jason seamlessly weaves together his knowledge of yoga, exercise science, anatomy, buddhist philosophy, massage, and Traditional Chinese Medicine. But even with all this knowledge and expertise under his belt, his classes are down to earth and I always leave class feeling strong, balanced and serene. I am hooked."

"I contacted Jason and set up a private yoga session to explore his signature Zenyasa practice. The practice is skillfully put together and provides a balanced mental, physical and emotional experience. It's a beautiful practice and I am so happy to have found it."

"Zenyasa Yoga,as taught by Jason Brown, is the most wonderful yoga experience we have ever had (and have tried many). Jason's idea is that yoga is a mindful, healthful and athletic discipline. Attending one of his 90 minute classes provides the yoga student an uplifting, joyful and freeing feeling - deeply felt in the entire body and brain. "

"Zenyasa is an amazingly thoughtful integration of meditation and yoga and thorough knowledge of anatomy and kinesiology. Jason Brown is an insightful teacher with the skill of articulating instructions very precisely and clearly and with enormous goodwill. The studio is small and sweet. It is a very creative and exciting."
"Soothing touch, whether it be applied to a ruffled cat, a crying infant, or a frightened child, has a universally recognized power to ameliorate the signs of distress. How can it be that we overlook its usefulness on the jangled adult as well? What is it that leads us to assume that the stressed child merely needs “comforting,” while the stressed adult needs “medicine”? "

I offer all of the modalities listed below. We'll have a discussion at the beginning of your visit so that you can let me know what kind of session you prefer (based on your current needs and preferences).
A full-body massage that’s ideal for people primarily seeking to reduce overall physical tension, release stress and relax. Techniques used include flowing and kneading strokes to improve circulation, as well as light to moderately deep palm, forearm, and finger pressure to help reduce muscle tension. Great for those new to massage, as well as those who may be uncomfortable with deep pressure.
Sessions begin with flowing and kneading techniques to warm up the body, followed by cross-fiber friction against the grain of the muscle, muscular stripping along the length of the muscle, and deep compression against the muscle bellies and skeletal attachments in order to penetrate and release tension in deeper muscle layers, reduce fascial adhesions, and address pain-causing trigger points.
Therapeutic massage is a great modality to choose if your primary goal is to relieve chronic musculoskeletal pain in specific areas. The first session will include an interview to learn more about the history and possible causes of the pain. During your booking, please be sure to add both a postural analysis (15-minutes) and range of motion analysis (15-minutes) so that we can spend some time assessing the musculoskeletal imbalances that may be contributing to your pain before diving into the massage.
Manual lymphatic drainage is a light, skin-stretching modality designed to aid the flow of lymph fluid toward the major lymph nodes, where it gets inspected and cleaned, and then toward the heart where it merges with the venous blood on its way back into circulation. It's ideal for post-traumatic and post-surgical edema, lymphedema, rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome and immune system support. It's also a perfect choice for those seeking stress reduction bc it's super relaxing!
I also offer several add-on services for an additional fee, which you can select when you book your session.
Cupping is an alternative therapeutic approach that uses negative pressure to create suction on the body, which can help release tension, loosen fascial adhesions, break up scar tissue, increase blood circulation, and promote the free flow of Qi through the major meridian pathways. Enhance the benefits of your massage with the therapeutic effects of decompression therapy.
Elevate your massage experience with a 15-minute postural analysis and exercise prescription. I'll assess your posture and suggest exercises to help address the imbalances we discover. Addressing postural issues in tandem with your massage will ensure you leave feeling not only relaxed but also equipped with tools to maintain a healthier, more comfortable posture in your daily life.
I'll assess the range of motion for each of your major joints in order to identify any limitations or restrictions. Based on the findings, I'll offer suggestions to increase your range of motion and promote greater muscular balance in your body. This add-on complements your massage by addressing the root causes of tension and discomfort, ensuring you leave not only relaxed but also with improved mobility and the tools to maintain it.

"Jason is exceptional. One of the highest body IQs of anyone I've worked with, he got rid of chronic lower back pain (SI area) that had been lingering for ~5 months. After a decade of orthopedic surgeries and sessions with 10+ PTs over the years, no one comes close to Jason in diagnosing the root cause of pain. I'm a big question-asker and his anatomy & physiology knowledge is second to none. Would recommend to anyone."

"So glad someone referred Jason to me! He is fantastic and has helped me manage a chronic problem I have had for a long time. I not only feel much better, but have learned so much about my anatomy and how to manage some of the triggers. I can't recommend Jason enough and feel so lucky to have met him. He is excellent!!!"

"I look for very specific qualities in a bodyworker: curiosity, knowledge and listening skills. I was pleasantly surprised to find that he not only embodies the aforementioned standards, but surpasses them. In just one session, he identified a maladaptive movement pattern that everyone else had missed and my shoulder began to heal! I consider Jason a mentor and recommend him to all of my clients, students and friends!"

"I have been to a fair number of massage therapists over the past 35 years, and there are only two that I would rank of the highest quality. Jason Brown is one of them. Apart from his extensive knowledge of the body, Jason has an unusual ability to listen intently both to the words and to unspoken body language of his clients. He is sensitive and attentive, and is always focused on my needs in order to intuit what will be the most beneficial for my specific condition, that day. I recommend him highly."
