Licensed Massage Therapist since 2006
I have been a licensed massage therapist with a private massage practice on the Upper West Side in Manhattan since 2006. I consider myself a skillful, intuitive technician with a strong knowledge of musculoskeletal anatomy, common musculoskeletal imbalances, pain syndromes and injuries. I also have a background in yoga and resistance training, and like to offer suggestions for exercise and self-care outside of the sessions to help bring your body back into balance and/or speed up the recovery process following injury.
In addition to the excellent, 1,200+ hour education that I received from the Swedish Institute, where I studied most of the major massage modalities including Swedish, deep-tissue, sports massage, & shiatsu, I'm a big believer in continuing education and have completed certification courses in neuromuscular therapy, orthopedic manual therapy, and prenatal/post-partum massage therapy.
I see clients at the Zenyasa Studio, which is conveniently located on the Upper West Side in Manhattan at 155 W. 72nd Street, #601.
"I was looking to rehab a pesky shoulder injury, one that had not responded to physical therapy or other therapeutic modalities. I look for very specific qualities in a bodyworker: curiosity, knowledge and listening skills. My yoga teacher recommended Jason, and I was pleasantly surprised to find that he not only embodies the aforementioned standards, but surpasses them. In just one session, he helped me identify a maladaptive movement pattern that everyone else had missed and my shoulder began to heal! Since then, I've regained strength and mobility and have gained body awareness that has positively impacted my personal practice and what I share with my audience. I consider Jason a mentor and recommend him to all of my private clients, students and friends!"

"As a yoga teacher and lover of movement, having the support of a massage therapist like Jason is invaluable. His thoughtful and varied techniques have eliminated pain that had plagued me for years. I leave each session feeling balanced and organized, and enjoy the lasting benefits of improved proprioception, fine motor control and ease in walking and breathing."

"The consummate professional, Jason provides a wonderfully warm and relaxing environment that inspires deep relaxation. His knowledge about the human body is vast and thus he works very specifically and holistically in his massage. After a consistent every other week massage appointment for several months, I feel a radical change in my body's ability to weather the storms of every day stress. Jason is a tribute to his profession, and I recommend him every chance I get!"

"I scheduled a massage with Jason after realizing that my yoga practice alone would not release all the tension in my body. Having only had one previous massage at a spa I was a little unsure as to what to expect, but Jason's grounded energy and warmth made me feel comfortable and in capable hands. My deep tissue massage was so much more than the "feel- good", relaxing experience I had anticipated. Jason's exquisite knowledge of the body and his ability to cater specifically to my body's needs allowed me to walk away feeling a real sense of relief. And I felt better for the next few weeks! I would recommend Jason to anyone seeking a massage, either for relaxation or therapeutic purposes."

"I have been to a fair number of massage therapists over the past 35 years, and there are only two that I would rank of the highest quality. Jason Brown is one of them. He has a rare gift. Apart from his extensive knowledge of the physical body, Jason has an unusual ability to listen intently both to the words and to unspoken body language of his clients. The result is that there is never anything rote or routine about the session. He is sensitive and attentive, and is always focused on my needs in order to intuit what will be the most beneficial for my specific condition, that day. I recommend him highly."
